Delete your account

In the app

• Open Profile (bottom right).
• Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
• Confirm. It takes effect immediately — there is no waiting period and no "cooling off" window during which we quietly keep your profile alive.

If you cannot get into the app

Use the form below, or email admin@zzup.org from the address on the account with the subject Delete my account. Either way, we verify that the request really comes from the account holder before we act on it, then delete the account within 30 days — usually much sooner — and confirm by email when it is done.

Send from the address on the account where you can. If you no longer have access to it, tell us in the message and we will work out another way to verify you.

What is erased immediately

• Your name and your pet's name — both become "Deleted user"
• Both bios and both avatars
• Your date of birth, gender, nationality and university
• Your contact email and your student email, and any verification status
• Your interest vector — the numeric profile used to match you with people
• Your friendships, and every record of you having blocked someone
• Every route by which someone could search for, add, or notify you

Any group chat you created is handed to its longest-standing member, so the group does not collapse when you go.

What is kept, and why

We keep three things. Each is disclosed here because we are required to disclose data retained for safety, anti-fraud or legal reasons — and because you should be able to make an informed decision before you tap the button.

• Messages you already sent, shown as coming from "Deleted user". A conversation is also the other person's record. If deleting your account wiped your half of it, anyone could harass a stranger and then erase the evidence by deleting their account. Your name is gone from those messages; the words stay.
• Records of other people blocking you. Otherwise deleting and re-registering would be a one-tap way around someone's block.
• Your zZuP ID. It is retired permanently and never reissued. We keep it to recognise ban evasion. On its own it identifies nothing about you.

Where the law requires longer retention — for example, preservation obligations around reports of child sexual exploitation — we comply with it. The full picture is in the Privacy Notice.

What this means in practice

• Nobody can find you, message you, or add you.
• Nobody can see who you were.
• Old conversations still exist for the people who were in them, attributed to a deleted user.
• Deletion is not reversible. Signing up again creates a new account with a new zZuP ID — your old number is gone for good.

Something else you might want instead

If the problem is one person rather than the whole app, you can block just their pet identity and keep the human relationship, or block them outright — see the Safety page. If the problem is noise, every notification and every route by which strangers can reach you has its own switch in Settings.
